Isles of Scilly Steamship Company Ltd was formed on 26th March 1920. The company was set up by the inhabitants of the Islands with the aim of providing regular, cost effective and enjoyable travel between the mainland and the Isles of Scilly.The first Scillonian vessel began regular trips from Penzance to St Maryv¢‚Ç¨‚Ñ¢s on Thursday 2nd February 1926. Since then the company has continually operated the shipping service. As well as a passenger ferry, the company operates a year round sea freight service with their Norwegian coaster, Gry Maritha. The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company operates its own airline, Skybus, which has a fleet of six fixed wing aircraft flying from Land's End, Newquay and Exeter airports to the Isles of Scilly. The airline will soon be celebrating its 30th Anniversary and there are plans to increase the frequency of service in 2013. Landv¢‚Ç¨‚Ñ¢s End Airport and Penzance Dry Dock are also managed by the company.
