Cornwall’s Business Book Club: Series 2 – Doughnut Economics by Kate Raworth
Doughnut Economics is a great book, but it also explains a rationale for modern business – have you heard of it?
Have you wanted to read the book, to help you consider using the model to change the way you do business, but just haven’t found the time?
Interested, but not sure how to get started?
Join the University of Exeter as we work through Kate’s book and explore what it might mean for small businesses in Cornwall.
The series will open with an introductory session featuring the University of Exeter’s Dr Allen Alexander and his recent interview with Kate Raworth. Peter Lefort, from the Cornwall Doughnut Collective, will get us thinking about some of the doughnut’s key themes and introduce the practical tools we will be using as the series progresses.
Then, taking up only an hour a week during a lunch break, we will work through the book together, one chapter at a time. You will also get a free copy of the book:
30 Sept 12 – 2 pm Introduction
7 Oct 12 – 1.15 pm Change the Goal
14 Oct 12 – 1.15 pm See the Big Picture
21 Oct 12 – 1.15 pm Nurture Human Nature
28 Oct Half term (no session)
4 Nov 12 – 1.15 pm Get savvy with systems
11 Nov 12 – 1.15 pm Design to Distribute
18 Nov 12 – 1.15 pm Create to Regenerate
25 Nov 12 – 1.15 pm Be Agnostic about Growth
2 Dec 12 – 2 pm Conclusion and future steps
Sessions will feature guest speakers and case studies from businesses who are already using the doughnut. However, the aim of each session is to provide a space for discussion so come prepared to participate in some challenging and interesting conversations.
The aim of the series is to encourage and equip you to start using the doughnut model within your business in whatever way you can, and we will arrange a follow up session for participants to share their progress and challenges in mid-2022.
