Meet Georgina May – founder of Venton Ltd. A proper Cornish girl, Georgina grew up in St Austell and has been blissfully situated near the city of Truro ever since. With extensive experience in her field, she started her journey after completing her AAT and NVQs in Business and Payroll and cutting her teeth at a well-established Truro accountancy firm.
But, as a passionate and driven businesswoman, it was in 2014 that she was inspired to start her own business – cue the launch of Venton Accounts. Five years later, with a book of dedicated clients and a hunger to expand, Georgina decided to realise her next dream – a creative space to help people run inspiring events. Today, she is thrilled to have launched the Venton Conference Centre, a state-of-the-art facility just seconds from the A30.
Over this time, she has loved watching her clients’ businesses grow, thanks to her unwavering philosophy that, while anyone can enter data, it is how you use that data afterwards that is the key.
Georgie has lead on a number of successful accountancy apprenticeships at Venton in recent years, and is keen to showcase how apprenticeships can benefit both the workplace and employees alike, thus developing skills, experience and qualifications that evolve and grow within the workplace.
When she is not in the office, though, Georgina can usually be found walking the Cornish coast path with her family and two cocker spaniels.
James Nixon - Cyber Security Consultant of Cool Waters
In his working career, James has previously managed a Post Office for 10 years before trying his hand at being self-employed in the Grounds Maintenance industry. After 6 years, an industrial injury brought an end to his self-employment and he looked at his options to start a new career.
After successfully completing a government funded Skills Bootcamp in IT Infrastructure and keen to continue the learning experience, James applied for and was enrolled onto a Cyber Security Risk Analyst apprenticeship with Cool Waters Cyber, which is based in the Tremough Innovation Centre in Penryn.
James is keen to highlight the importance of apprenticeships in the modern workplace and how apprenticeships have become a progressive set of qualifications that bring benefits to businesses and employees alike and can create skilled jobs that are sustainable in an ever-changing workplace.
When not busy with work in the dynamic field of Cyber Security, James keeps himself busy with a number of hobbies, including hiking his way around the South West Coast Path and immersing himself in Landscape Photography and Astrophotography (when the skies are clear!).
